Congratulations for choosing Connexus Internet Service as your Internet Provider.

This 3-step guide is designed for customers whose computer is already Internet ready.

We recommend you print this Guide and retain it for future reference.

Please have your username and password before proceeding with installation.

Step 1: Choose your Dialing Number
We operate local access points ("POPs") in the following areas. Please choose the number in your area. You will need to program this number into your computer during Step 2.

It is important that you call from within the local area of our POP, otherwise you may incur STD call charges when you connect to the Internet. If you live outside the local metropolitan area, please confirm call charges will Telstra by dialing 1222 on your telephone before continuing. For further assistance please telephone our HelpDesk on 1300 133 888.

Step 2: Installing Connection
This step involves installing our connection details in your computer. Please follow the instructions which correspond to your operating system (choose Windows 95/98, Windows NT, Mac OS8 or 9)

Windows 95 &
Windows 98
  1. On your Windows desktop, double click My Computer icon, then double click Dialup Networking
  2. Double-click the icon Make New Connection in the Dialup-Networking folder
  3. Enter details in accordance with the following table:
    • Name for the Computer you are dialing: Connexus Internet Service
    • Area Code: 03, 02, 07, 08 (depending where you live)
    • Telephone Number: refer Step 1
    • Country Code: Australia
    • Click Finish when prompted
  4. There should now be an icon called Connexus Internet in your Dialup Networking folder
  5. Click once on the Connexus Internet icon, then click File menu, Properties
  6. Click on Server Types then turn off "Logon to Network". This will speed up your connection time
  7. Click OK
  8. Click once on the Connexus Internet icon, then click on the Connections menu, then click Settings
  9. Turn on the option called Redial. This will cause Windows to automatically redial the modem if all our lines are busy. You should enter the number of times you wish to redial, e.g. 20 times, and the delay inbetween attempts, e.g. 10 seconds.
  10. Click OK to save settings. Congratulations! You have completed this step. Now proceed to Step 3
Windows NT
(version 4)
  1. On your Windows desktop, double click My Computer icon, then double click Dialup Networking
  2. Click New to add a new phonebook entry
  3. Enter the name Connexus Internet then click Next
  4. On the Server options screen, tick the following two options:
    • "I am calling the Internet”: ON
    • "Send my plain text password”: ON
    • "The non-Windows NT ...”: OFF
    • Click Next to continue
  5. Enter the phone number for dialing the Internet (refer Step 1). Click Next to continue
  6. Congratulations! You have successfully created a new connection. Now proceed to Step 3
Macintosh
OS8 & OS9
  1. Double-click the Internet Setup Assistant icon which is located under Macintosh HD icon, Internet folder.
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts for Internet Setup Assistant. Click the right arrow to progress through the menus. The following table lists the settings which you will be prompted to enter:

Step 3: Configuring your Software
After completing Step 2 your computer should be able to dial & connect to the Connexus Internet server. Now it's important to configure your software so that you can send/receive E-mail and browse the Web.

If you are changing to Connexus Internet from another provider, the necessary software should already be installed on your computer. You simply need to change the settings by following these steps. If you need assistance please telephone our HelpDesk on 1300-133-888.

Netscape Communicator (version 4.5 - 4.7) Configuration

  1. Inside Netscape, click “Edit” menu then “Preferences"
  2. Click “Navigator” in the left-hand side Category menu
  3. Enter the following address in the “Home Page Location” box: http://www.connexus.net.au/plaza/
  4. Click the “+” next to “Mail & Newsgroups” in the left-hand side Category menu
  5. Click “Identity", then enter the following:
    • "Your Name” is your own name, for example John Citizen
    • "Email address” is your Connexus e-mail address, for example jcitizen@connexus.net.au
    • "Reply-to-address", “Organistion", and “Signature File” are normally left blank.
  6. Now click “Mail Servers” in the left-hand side menu. Under “Incoming Mail Servers” there should be one entry for Connexus. If your Connexus entry is missing or malfunctioning, click Add then enter the following details:
    • "Server Name” is pop.connexus.net.au
    • "Server Type” is POP3 Server
    • "Username” is your Connexus username, for example jcitizen (must be all lower case, no capitals)
    • The option “Leave messages on server after retrieval” should be turned OFF (the box must have NO tick inside)
    • Click OK when you have entered these settings.
  7. Also under the “Mail Servers” section you must enter the Outgoing Mail Server settings. These are:
  8. “Outgoing mail (SMTP) server”: mail.connexus.net.au
  9. “Outgoing mail server user name”: leave this box blank
  10. Now click “Newsgroups Server” in the left-hand menu. Click Add. Enter the Server: news.connexus.net.au Port should be 119. The other boxes in this window must be turned off (NO tick inside)
  11. Click the “+” next to “Advanced” in the left-hand side Category menu. Now click “Proxies"
  12. Click the button next to “Automatic proxy configuration” so that this option is turned on
  13. Enter the following address in “Configuration location (URL)”: proxy.connexus.net.au
  14. Click OK when finished. Your Netscape is now configured properly

Netscape Communicator (version 4) Configuration

  1. Inside Netscape, click “Edit” menu then “Preferences"
  2. Click “Navigator” in the left-hand side Category menu
  3. Enter the following address in the “Home Page Location” box: http://www.connexus.net.au/plaza
  4. Click the “+” next to “Mail&Groups” in the left-hand side Category menu.
    Click “Identity", then enter the following:
    • "Your Name” is your own name, for example John Citizen
    • "E-mail address” is your Connexus e-mail address, for example jcitizen@connexus.net.au
    • "Reply-to-address", “Organistion", and “Signature File” are normally left blank
  5. Now click “Mail Server” in the left-hand side menu. Enter the following details:
    • "Mail server user name” is your Connexus Name, for example jcitizen (must be all lower case, no capitals)
    • "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server” mail.connexus.net.au
    • "Incoming mail server" pop.connexus.net.au
  6. Mail Server Type should be set to “POP3”. The option “Leave messages on server after retrieval” should be turned OFF (the box must have NO tick inside).
  7. Now click “Groups Server” in the left-hand menu. Enter the Discussion groups server: news.connexus.net.au
  8. Click the “+” next to “Advanced” in the left-hand side Category menu. Now click “Proxies"
  9. Click the button next to “Automatic proxy configuration” so that this option is turned on
  10. Enter the following address in “Configuration location (URL)”: proxy.connexus.net.au
  11. Click OK when finished. Your Netscape is now configured properly.

Netscape Navigator (version 2 & version 3) Configuration

  1. Inside Netscape, click “Edit” menu then “Preferences"
  2. Click “Navigator” in the left-hand side Category menu
  3. Enter the following address in the “Home Page Location” box: http://www.connexus.net.au/plaza
  4. Click the “+” next to “Mail&Groups” in the left-hand side Category menu.

Latest version Microsoft “Internet Explorer 5” Configuration

  1. Open the Control Panel (Start button, Settings) then double-click the Internet icon.
  2. Enter the following Home Page address: http://www.connexus.net.au/plaza
  3. Click the “Connections” tab at the top of the window. In the Dialup Settings box you should see an entry for Connexus Internet.
  4. If you want your modem to automatically dial Connexus Internet when you open your Web browser, click on Connexus Internet and then click Set as Default. You can also click Settings to insert your username and password (if required) so they are remembered by the computer. However we caution against saving your password, especially if your computer is used by others: You are fully responsible for use of your Internet password and charges incurred.
  5. Click OK and close Control Panel. Your Internet Explorer browser is now configured correctly.

Microsoft “Internet Explorer” (versions 2 and 3) Configuration

  1. Inside Internet Explorer, click “View” menu then “Options”.
  2. Click “Connection” at the top of the window.
  3. Turn on the option “Connect to the Internet as needed” and select Connexus from the pull-down menu
  4. Click on the “Navigation” tab at the top of the window.
  5. Enter the following address for the “Start Page”: http://www.connexus.net.au/plaza Then click OK.
  6. Your Internet Explorer browser is now configured correctly.

Microsoft “Internet Explorer 4” Configuration

  1. Open the Control Panel (Start button, Settings) then double-click the Internet icon.
  2. Enter the following Home Page address: http://www.connexus.net.au/plaza
  3. Click the “Connection” tab at the top of the window. Turn on “Connect to the Internet using a modem”
  4. Click “Settings” then select Connexus from the pull-down menu. Enter your Connexus username in the username box. It is not recommended that you enter your password, in case your computer is stolen. Click OK
  5. Your Internet Explorer browser is now configured correctly.

Microsoft “Internet Mail” Configuration

  1. If you are installing Internet Mail for the first time, you will be asked to enter some details. These details are listed in steps 2-3 below. If you are reconfiguring an existing Internet Mail setup, simply follow these steps:
  2. Inside “Internet Mail", click “Mail” menu then click “Options”.
  3. Click “Server” at the top of the window.
    “Name” is your name, e.g John Citizen.
    “Email Address” is your e-mail address.
    “Organisation” is blank.
    The “Outgoing Mail SMTP” server is mail.connexus.net.au
    Incoming Mail POP3 is pop.connexus.net.au
  4. Click the round button next to “Logon using”. “Account Name” is your Connexus username, e.g. jcitizen.
    Password is your normal Connexus password (remember to use all lower case, no capital letters).
  5. Now click the “Connection” tab at the top of the window.
  6. Turn on the option “I use a modem to access my e-mail” and select “Connexus” from the pull-down menu.
  7. Click OK. Your Internet Mail software is now configured.

New version Microsoft “Outlook Express” Configuration

  1. Inside Outlook Express, click the “Tools” menu then click “Accounts”.
  2. Click “Mail” at the top of the window.
  3. If you have previously tried to configure Outlook with Connexus, you may already have an Account listed. Before proceeding we recommend that you remove this old Account so that you can create a new Account correctly.
  4. Click the “Add” button then click “Mail..” Enter your name and e-mail address when prompted then click Next.
  5. The incoming mail server is “POP3” type.
    The Incoming mail server is pop.connexus.net.au
    The Outgoing mail server is mail.connexus.net.au
  6. Click “Next”. Turn on “Log on using” and enter your Connexus username in the “POP account name” box. Enter your Connexus password in the Password box.
  7. On the “Friendly Name” screen, enter your “Internet mail account name” as Connexus Internet
  8. The method you should use to connect is “Connect using my phone line”. Use your existing modem and use an existing dial-up connection. Choose Connexus from the menu.
  9. This completes your Outlook configuration.

Microsoft “Outlook” Configuration (note this is not the same as “Outlook Express")

  1. Inside Outlook, click the “Tools” menu then click “Services”. Click “Internet Mail” then click “Properties” (if Internet Mail is not listed as a service, you will need to press Add then select Internet Mail from the list)
  2. In Properties, enter the following details: Internet Mail Server: mail.connexus.net.au
    “Account name” is the same as your Connexus username, and Password is your normal Connexus Password.
  3. Click the “Advanced” button, enter the following address: mail.connexus.net.au then click OK
  4. Click the “Connection” tab at the top of the window, then turn on “Connect using my phone line”.
  5. Select Connexus from the pull-down menu. Click OK, then click OK again.
  6. You will need to restart Outlook.

Old version Eudora E-mail Configuration

  1. Inside Eudora, click the “Special” menu then click “Configuration”.
  2. Enter the following details:
    “POP account”: username@pop.connexus.net.au for example jcitizen@pop.connexus.net.au
    “Real name”: Your name, e.g. John Citizen
    “Return address”: Your Connexus e-mail address
    “SMTP” server: mail.connexus.net.au
  3. Click OK. You have now successfully configured Eudora!

New version Eudora E-mail Configuration

  1. Inside Eudora, click the “Tools” menu then click “Options”.
  2. Click “Personal Info” in the left column and enter the following details:
    “POP account”: username@pop.connexus.net.au for example jcitizen@pop.connexus.net.au
    “Real name”: Your name, e.g. John Citizen
    “Return address”: Your Connexus e-mail address
  3. Now click “Hosts” in the left column.
  4. Enter the following address in the “SMTP” box: mail.connexus.net.au
  5. Click OK. You have now successfully configured Eudora!

Claris E-mail (Macintosh) Configuration

  1. Inside Claris E-mail, click the “Setup” menu then click “Accounts”.
  2. Double-click “Your Account Name"
  3. Enter the following details:
    “Account name”: Connexus Internet
    “User name”: Your Connexus username, in all small letters (no capitals)
    “E-mail account”: username@pop.connexus.net.au for example “jcitizen@pop.connexus.net.au"
    “E-mail password”: Your Connexus password
    “SMTP host”: mail.connexus.net.au
    "E-mail address" Your Connexus e-mail address, e.g. jcitizen@connexus.net.au
